• MEASURE MOISTURE: Ensure the worm bed has just enough moisture; too much moisture in the bedding can lead to worms drowning or fleeing, unpleasant odors, and increased acidity
• MEASURE LIGHT: Worms are light-sensitive and will bury themselves in the bedding to avoid light; light can be used strategically to prevent worms from wandering (especially in a new environment)
• MEASURING pH: The pH level should be slightly acidic and maintained between 6.0 – 7.0; too much acidity can cause sour odors and lead to protein poisoning in composting worms
